A pedestrian was killed Monday morning in a crash involving a Regional Transportation District A Line train, forcing the transit system to use shuttle buses for hours while the fatal accident was under investigation.
The pedestrian was hit around 9:55 a.m. near a crossing gate at Smith Road and Dahlia Street, said Pauline Haberman, an RTD spokesman.
The pedestrian, a man, was crossing the tracks prior to the crash, Denver Police Department spokesman Jay Casillas said. The crossbar was down, and the lights were flashing, he said.
Twenty-four passengers were on the train, which was en route to Denver International Airport, but no one was injured, Haberman said.
Police closed roads near that intersection and the railroad.
RTD shuttles took A Line passengers between Union Station and Central Park Station until 2 p.m. Monday. The A Line continued to run between Central Park Station and the airport, Haberman said.
