No victims found after shooter kills himself in Evergreen, Jeffco sheriff says

A man fatally shot himself after opening fire inside a medical office at a north Evergreen shopping center on Thursday evening, sparking a large police response and closing roads in the area.
People at the shopping center at 32314 Ellingwood Trail started calling 911 at 5 p.m. after hearing gunshots, Jefferson County sheriff’s spokesperson Karlyn Tilley said.
Investigators confirmed the shooting was contained to the Common Spirit Primary Care Center, sheriff’s officials said Thursday night.
There were no victims found at the scene, and investigators are working to identify the shooter, Tilley said.
“We are very fortunate that none of the people in the care center were shot,” sheriff’s officials said on social media, describing it as an “active shooter incident.”
No one saw or spoke to the man during the shooting, and he shot himself when he encountered police, Tilley said. He did not fire at law enforcement, and no officers fired their weapons, she said.
The shooting is “very rattling” for community members and law enforcement even though there are no known victims, Tilley said.
Thursday’s shooting comes five months after a student at Evergreen High School shot and seriously wounded two students before fatally shooting himself.
Westbound Colorado 74 is closed between Old Highway 74 and Squaw Pass Road for safety concerns, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
