C. Jakarta Immigration arrests Pakistani national for passport forgery

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Class I Non-TPI Immigration Office in Central Jakarta arrested a Pakistani national with the initials NUD (28) for violating his stay permit and suspected involvement in a fake-passport syndicate.

The Head of the Central Jakarta Immigration Office, Muhammad Iqbal, on Thursday (March 12), detailed that the case stemmed from suspicions raised by Soekarno-Hatta Airport Customs and Excise, where they discovered a package containing three Ukrainian and Pakistani passports.

“The recipient of the package containing the fake passports was located in an apartment in Central Jakarta, so we conducted the investigation,” he continued.

During a search of the apartment, officers apprehended NUD, who, upon examination, also violated his stay permit.

NUD came to Indonesia using a limited stay permit as an investor but in reality, was committing fraud.

During the arrest, officers also confiscated four cell phones, one laptop, 10 foreign stamps, cardboard boxes, and the package.

Meanwhile, Pamuji Raharja, Head of the Jakarta Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, stated that the case was uncovered through collaboration between Soekarno-Hatta Airport Customs and Excise and the Directorate General of Immigration, and was executed by the Central Jakarta Immigration Office.

He lauded the Central Jakarta Immigration Office for their swift response to the case at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

“The successful resolution of this case is certainly the result of excellent cross-sector collaboration; such cooperation must be upheld,” he remarked.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Central Jakarta Immigration Supervision and Enforcement Section, Yudhistira, said the suspect confessed to the three fake passports being shipped from Greece.

In his operation, NUD also produced counterfeit immigration stamps so the three fake passports could appear to have been stamped by various countries.

“Passports with many stamps will be stronger as if the passport holder has traveled to various countries,” Yudhistira explained.
