“With the permission of National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, we have temporarily ended the national one-way traffic system for the homecoming period at 1:22 p.m.,” the Police Traffic Corps Chief, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, said on Friday.
He explained that the decision was based on evaluation results, which showed that traffic flow was relatively smooth and under control.
“Traffic conditions are now normal, both heading to Jakarta and Semarang,” he added.
The national one-way traffic policy was implemented on the Trans-Java Toll Road on Wednesday (March 18), starting from kilometer 70 of the Cikampek Utama Toll Gate in West Java to kilometer 414 at the Kalikangkung Toll Gate in Semarang, Central Java.
Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said the implementation of this traffic management system is a form of government involvement to provide the best service for Eid homecomers.
The system had actually been in place since March 17, but only briefly, covering kilometer 70 to kilometer 263 of the Trans-Java Toll Road.
However, the more extensive one-way traffic policy was implemented due to the increasing volume of vehicles using the Trans-Java Toll Road heading towards Central Java.
Earlier, the Transportation Ministry projected that about 143.9 million people will travel during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday season.
The figure is slightly lower than last year’s survey estimate of about 146 million travelers. The projection is based on a nationwide survey conducted by the ministry to assess public travel intentions and preferences.
