Man arrested in Denver shooting death of teenage girl

An 18-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of murder after a teenage girl was found shot to death in Denver the day before, police said.
Denver officers responded to the fatal shooting in the 5500 block of North Tucson Street just after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to a news release from the police department.
Investigators originally believed the teenage victim shot herself, but later identified Jasirr Simmons as a suspect in her death, police said. Simmons was arrested on Wednesday and booked into the Denver Downtown Detention Center on suspicion of first-degree murder, according to inmate records.
The victim will be identified by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner.
Police said Simmons and the victim knew each other, but did not specify their relationship.
Simmons is scheduled to appear Thursday morning in Denver County Court for an advisement hearing.
