Most Brits oppose US using UK military bases to bomb Iran

According to a poll, conducted by YouGov on Thursday, nearly half (49%) of people oppose the UK Government’s decision to allow the United States to use UK airbases specifically to launch attacks against missile bases in Iran.

Of those, 28% said they strongly opposed , while 21% said they somewhat oppose.

Meanwhile, 35% of Brits said they supported the UK Government‘s decision to allow the US to use UK bases, with 15% saying they strongly supported and 20% saying they somewhat supported the decision.

A total of 16% of people surveyed said they did not know.

Over the weekend, a number of US bomber jets began landing at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, and reports suggest they have already taken part in missions from the military base to launch attacks on Iran.

The YouGov poll also revealed that support for the US using UK military bases has increased by three points since the last survey was conducted on March 2 – two days after the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran.

Support for the UK Government’s decision to allow the US to use UK airbases to attack Iranian missile bases was highest among Reform voters, at 41%, and lowest with Green voters – with 51% saying they strongly opposed the decision.

The YouGov poll surveyed 7584 Great British adults on March 12.

It comes just days after another YouGov poll found support for Donald Trump’s bombing of Iran has plunged in Great Britain.

The poll, which surveyed 12,002 GB adults on March 9, found 9% of people oppose the US’s ongoing military action against Iran – an increase of 10 points since March 2.

Of those, 37% said they strongly opposed the action, while 22% said they somewhat oppose.

Meanwhile, 25% of Brits said they supported the US’s bombing of Iran, with 10% saying they strongly supported the military operation and 15% saying they somewhat support it – reflecting a drop in three points since the last poll on March 2.

A total of 16% of people surveyed said they did not know.
