Bali police manage heavy queues toward Gilimanuk Port ahead of Eid

“The Bali Regional Police, together with all stakeholders, continue to ease the traffic congestion heading to Gilimanuk Port through various measures, from traffic management and engineering to implementing a vehicle delay system,” Bali Regional Police Chief of Operations, Senior Commissioner Soelistijono, said on Sunday evening.
Long queues of vehicles formed on the route to Gilimanuk Port on Sunday, reportedly stretching for tens of kilometers. This situation was caused by the high mobility of people leaving Bali for Eid homecoming.
As a mitigation measure, Soelistijono said police personnel were stationed at several congested areas to regulate and manage traffic along the route to the port.
The police also coordinated with relevant agencies to implement the Arrival, Unloading, and Departure (TBB) system at Ketapang Port, East Java, to expedite the loading and unloading process, allowing ships to return to service more quickly.
In addition, vehicles with three or more axles were restricted in Denpasar, Badung District, and Tabanan District.
“These vehicles were directed to the buffer zone to implement a delay system to prevent all vehicles from arriving at the port area at the same time,” Soelistijono informed.
He added that officers also set up parking areas as temporary waiting zones for vehicles awaiting their turn to cross.
Periodic patrols were conducted to prevent queue-jumping, which could potentially cause congestion and conflict between road users.
At night, Soelistijono said that police officers patrol on motorcycles to wake drivers who fall asleep while waiting in long queues of vehicles heading to the port.
Meanwhile, a different situation is observed at Padangbai Port, Karangasem District where the ferry crossing at the port remains relatively quiet, with barely visible queues of vehicles due to the low traffic volume.
