National Police report rising Eid return traffic toward Jakarta

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The National Police announced a significant increase in traffic heading back to Jakarta during the Eid al-Fitr homecoming return flow.

Police Commissioner Marupa Sagala, spokesperson for the 2026 Ketupat Operation Public Relations Task Force, projected that the peak return traffic will occur in two phases: March 24, 2026, and March 28–29, 2026.

“Vehicle volume has been rising steadily. We urge the public to plan their journeys carefully and take advantage of current traffic policies so the return flow can be managed in stages,” Sagala said on Monday.

Traffic data from Sunday, March 22, recorded 122,994 vehicles entering Jakarta—a 3.66 percent decrease compared to normal conditions, but a 3.73 percent increase from the same period last year.

Meanwhile, 168,159 vehicles exited Jakarta via the four main toll gates, marking a 65.79 percent rise from normal volumes and a 2.06 percent increase compared to Eid 2025.

To ensure smooth traffic during the homecoming and return periods, the National Police are enhancing CCTV surveillance, real-time monitoring, and coordination with the Ministry of Transportation, toll operator Jasa Marga, and traffic insurer Jasa Raharja.

Preventive measures include situational traffic engineering, such as contraflow and one-way systems at local and national levels.

The national one-way plan will begin on March 24, 2026, covering KM 414 to KM 70 of the Trans Java Toll Road.

Sagala also advised travelers to consider alternative routes via the South Jakarta–Cikampek II Toll Road, which will be toll-free on certain segments during the homecoming period to ease congestion.
