Jakarta plans to revitalize Kampung Rambutan Terminal after flooding

The Jakarta Provincial Government is preparing a revitalization plan for Kampung Rambutan Bus Terminal following waterlogging around the site during heavy rainfall on March 22.
Head of the Jakarta Transportation Office, Syafrin Liputo, said on Tuesday that the medium- and long-term plan aims to prevent similar flooding in the future.
“We will carry out revitalization of Kampung Rambutan Terminal to anticipate flooding risks going forward,” Liputo remarked while inspecting return-flow readiness at the terminal.
Built in the 1990s, the terminal has not undergone major upgrades, making revitalization a priority.
Liputo noted that the project will also consider surrounding area development, with the terminal already integrated into modern transport networks such as the Jabodebek LRT and Transjakarta services.
He emphasized that future development will follow the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) principle, which promotes integration between transport hubs and residential or commercial zones to improve mobility and efficiency.
The revitalization plan remains in the planning stage and will be implemented in line with Jakarta’s fiscal capacity. In the short term, authorities have begun cleaning drainage channels to ensure water flow is not obstructed during heavy rains.
“First, we will conduct cleaning. We must ensure the drainage is free from blockages,” Liputo said.
Coordination with Jakarta’s Water Resources Office is also underway to adjust infrastructure and mitigate risks of river overflow near the terminal. The cross-agency effort is intended to safeguard Kampung Rambutan as a vital transport hub in East Jakarta.
