Indonesia gears up to host 2026 FIFA Series this month

JAKARTA, March 19 (Xinhua) — Indonesia is ready to host its group of the 2026 FIFA Series, scheduled to take place from March 27 to 30, with key venues in Jakarta fully prepared for the international football event, Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir said on Thursday.

The minister’s assurance followed an on-site inspection on Wednesday at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium complex, including the main stadium and the Madya Stadium training ground, where final preparations were underway.

He confirmed that improvements, particularly to the pitch quality, had been completed to meet international standards.

“We must show that Indonesia can be a good host for international events like FIFA. And don’t forget to give full support to the national team,” Thohir said in a press release.

The minister also reviewed supporting facilities, including the national team’s merchandise outlet, before concluding his visit at the training field, which would be used during the tournament.

According to the ministry, the competition will follow a semifinal format. The schedule kicks off on March 27 with Bulgaria facing the Solomon Islands, followed by Indonesia taking on Saint Kitts and Nevis. The third-place playoff and final will both be held on March 30.
